Android 7.0 Nougat update for Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet released by Sony

Sony is about to release the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet. The OEM had been beta testing Nougat build for quite a few months now and it seemed about time that they released the OTA.

The Xperia Z5 Android 7.0 build would arrive as software version 32.3.A.0.372. This is exactly the same version that was spotted as under testing earlier, and it didn’t take Sony long time to make it available for the public.

Android 7.0 Nougat is quite a large overhaul as compared to previous iterations of Android. The Sony Xperia Z5 will now have a native multi-window support thanks to Android 7.0 OS, and will also feature changes to the settings app and quick settings pull down panel. Another useful addition is the Direct Reply feature from within the notification shade, which itself will group the notifications from one app into a bundle — one of the best features of Nougat for us.

Under the hood, Sony promises increased performance and more battery life too which should especially benefit the Z5 Premium with its power draining 4K display. Aside from that, Sony has included its own tweaks into Nougat too.

Sony has already released the Nougat builds for Xperia XZ, X and X Performance, all of which are currently running on Android 7.0, while Sony has promised quicker rollout of Android 7.1.1 build too, beginning with Xperia XZ and X Performance perhaps. In comparison to Samsung Galaxy S7 Nougat update that was released today, Sony has done pretty with Android 7.0 releases so far.

With MWC closing in, where we also expect LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8, we could expect more interesting devices from Sony. There’s word on the street that Sony’s not the only OEM keen on 4K displays. Stay tuned for updates on that.

  1. Will we have the option of lowering or highering the display’s resolution to U.H.D? because Sony ripped us off by releasing it as 1080, for most applications!

    1. due to human vision limit(300 dpi at arm length), 4k on 5.5″ screen(800dpi) is useless so it is much better to be in 1080p as there are less pixels to draw : faster drawing and less power used BUT 4k is not even enough resolution when we put a VR headset that magnifies optically the image so the only clever option was to automatically switch to 4k only in VR but sony engineers does not seem to have implemented it yet. they instead choose to automatically switch to 4k when viewing photos or 4k videos but again it is useless and drains battery for nothing as we cannot see the difference (even on a a 14″ 4k screen i cannot tell the difference between 4k and 1080p, i can only tell the difference on my 28″ 4k screen.
