Is there a One-Handed Sword in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
No. We’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news but there are no one-handed swords that can be found in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In fact, there is not a single sword that you can wield inside the game, contrasting to the fact that swords were quintessential to the Viking weaponry.
Weirdly enough, Ubisoft has thought otherwise and has completely omitted the most used weapon on earth after spears for you to use. To make matters worse, one-handed swords are yielded by almost every other NPCs (non-playing characters) within the game which is odd by any means.
Many fans have taken to Reddit and game forums across the internet to vent out their disappointment. Some aren’t surprised knowing very well how the makers of the game left out the ability to wield shields in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

What do you get instead?
While you can no longer use a mighty sword in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft now lets you dual-wield any two weapons or shields. This means you can take advantage of two weapons at the same time by selecting one weapon for the left hand and another for the right.
You can dual-wield items in your artillery in any combinations:
- Two axes
- Two hammers
- Two shields
- One Axe and One hammer
- A weapon (Axe, hammer, etc.) and a shield
- And even, Two two-handed weapons!
The ability to wield two weapons is available to you since the very beginning of the game. You just have to pick a weapon or shield for each of your hands.
However, you should note that dua-wielding doesn’t necessarily mean you have an advantage. Using two weapons or shields at once means you’re carrying more weight and do stand a chance at losing quite a lot of your stamina.
With more weight, you also won’t be able to dodge the opposition’s attack with as much ease as when you only use a single weapon. Also, if you wield two weapons in both of your hands, you won’t be able to block an attack like you would with a shield in your hand.
