The Abbey Entrance in Mortal Shell 2 contains several optional Tarstones, and Nightgrasp Stone is one of the more easily missed because its chest is tied to an environmental puzzle. The important part is knowing that the chest itself is only the starting point. Once you find it, you need to explore the surrounding area and activate three candle altars before returning for the reward.

How to get the Abbey Entrance Nightgrasp stone in Mortal Shell 2
The Nightgrasp Stone route starts at the Abbey Entrance Gate. From there, you will need to work your way through the ruined courtyard before dropping into the lower section of the tower.
How to find the locked chest
Step 1: Start at the Abbey Entrance Gate
Begin at the Abbey Entrance and face the large stone staircase leading toward the main entrance. Run up the staircase and continue toward the large archway.
You do not need to search around the starting area for the Nightgrasp chest. The important route begins once you reach the ruined courtyard beyond the main entrance.

Step 2: Enter the ruined courtyard
Pass through the open iron portcullis and enter the courtyard containing the red-leaved trees.
Continue forward through the ruined area and look for the stone archways on the left. Follow this route rather than staying on the main upper path.

Step 3: Follow the left-side archways
Move through the stone archways and look for the broken section of floor.
Drop down through the opening to reach the lower portion of the ruined tower. This is where you will encounter the chest associated with the puzzle.

Step 4: Examine the chest
Approach the chest and interact with it.
Instead of opening normally, the chest tells you that it requires three offerings. This is your indication that the three candle altars must be activated elsewhere in the surrounding area.
Do not spend too much time trying to force the chest open. Once you see the three-offering requirement, leave the tower and begin searching for the candles.

The three offerings are spread around the nearby environment. You need to interact with each glowing candle altar and select the Make Offering prompt.
How to find the first candle
The first candle is located close to the tower area.
After discovering the chest, look around the surrounding tower section for the glowing candle altar. Approach it and use the interaction prompt to Make Offering.
Once the offering is completed, move on rather than returning to the chest immediately. Two candles remain.

How to reach the cliffside candle
Exit the lower section through the archway leading toward the open cliffside.
Follow the route forward until you reach the wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and continue toward the ruined structures ahead.

Continue along the route until you can drop down into the lower, fog-covered section.
This area contains grave monuments and rocky terrain. Search around the rock face for another glowing candle altar.

Approach the candle altar near the rock face.
Interact with it and select Make Offering. This completes the second candle.
If you cannot immediately see it, check the edges of the rocky area rather than heading deeper into the ruins. The fog and surrounding monuments can make the altar blend into the environment.

How to find the final candle
Search the cliffside and surrounding route for the remaining candle altar.
The final candle is positioned away from the main chest itself, so don’t assume that the chest room contains all three offerings.

Once you find the glowing altar, interact with it and select Make Offering.
At this point, all three candle offerings should be complete.
How to unlock the Nightgrasp Stone chest
Continue along the route until you reach the large stone building with the wooden barricade blocking its entrance.
The barricade prevents you from entering the room containing the reward, so you need to destroy it. Attack the wooden barricade with your weapon until it breaks.
Once the entrance is clear, walk inside the building.

Inside, look for the large stone chest surrounded by candles. If you have successfully activated all three candle altars, you should now be able to interact with the chest normally.

Interact with the stone chest to collect the rewards. You will receive the Nightgrasp Stone along with Glimpse.
| Reward | Details |
|---|---|
| Nightgrasp Stone | Tarstone that provides a Phantom weapon effect |
| Glimpse | Additional progression resource |
Current collection information places Nightgrasp Stone among the game’s Abbey Entrance Tarstones and identifies its acquisition as the chest inside the stone tower on the cliffside path.
How to use Nightgrasp Stone in Mortal Shell 2
Nightgrasp Stone is particularly interesting if you are putting together a build that revolves around Phantom effects. Rather than simply providing a general defensive or stat bonus, it modifies your weapon’s behavior by giving it a Phantom-related effect.
This makes it worth keeping even if you are not immediately using it. Mortal Shell 2 encourages experimentation with Tarstones, weapons, Shell abilities, and other build components, and current build references already show Nightgrasp being used alongside Phantom-oriented setups.
The stone can therefore be more valuable once you have access to weapons and other Tarstones that complement its effect.
Video help:
The Nightgrasp Stone is one of Abbey Entrance’s worthwhile optional pickups, particularly if you are experimenting with Phantom-focused builds. Its location is straightforward once you know where the tower is, but the three-candle requirement can easily confuse.
Start by finding the chest in the lower part of the stone tower, then leave the area and activate all three candle altars scattered around the nearby tower and cliffside paths. After the final offering, return to the barricaded stone building, break through the wooden entrance, and open the chest.
