A new update to Mate 9 adds moving pictures feature that lets you capture dynamic photos

Huawei is one of the best non-Google OEMs when it comes to rolling out updates, way ahead of Samsung, the leading smartphone vendor in the world. Unlike Samsung, the Chinese OEM has already rolled out Android Oreo to a 2016 flagship in the shape of Huawei Mate 9.

The Mate 9 was released in Q4 2016 and it’s only among a handful of devices released in the same year that have been updated to Android Oreo.

Now, Oreo matters aside, the Mate 9 is currently receiving a new update that brings more gems to the phone. Similar to the Honor View 10 and Huawei P9, the new update adds moving picture in the Camera app, where users will now be able to capture dynamic shots in Standard mode.

The update also adds Highlights in the Gallery app, where it’ll now be possible to search for images using keywords as well as summarize moments in an album and a video in the app. As you would expect, there’s also a new Android security patch for improved system security.

The update is rolling out over the air as software version MHA-L09B 8.0.0.312(C33) and although not confirmed, the same OTA should also roll out to the variant with model number MHA-L29 sooner than later. You can also try a manual update via the Settings menu.
