In the closing stages of last year, Asus started rolling out Android Oreo to the ZenFone 4 ZE554KL handset and two months later, the same OS started hitting the ZenFone 4 Pro ZS551KL handset. Apparently, this OS has never reached those in Japan since its availability for the two devices, but the long wait is finally over.

As if to make up for the delayed rollout of the ZenFone 4 Oreo update, Asus is also seeding Oreo update for the ZenFone 3 with model numbers ZE520KL and ZE552KL. This is the first time the 2016 model is getting a taste of Oreo, which is a pretty nice gesture from Asus to the Japanese market.

Speaking of which, the ZenFone 3 becomes the first Asus smartphone sold in Japan to ever receive two major OS upgrades following its launch with Marshmallow and subsequent upgrade to Nougat. With this in mind, we expect to see other regions join the party sooner than later.

Since the OS is rolling out over the air, it may take a few days before every ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 3 user in Japan gets the OTA notification, but of course, trying a manual update via the Settings menu won’t hurt!
