Last year Samsung unveiled its ultra-premium flip phone called the W2018, and now Samsung is back at it again with the launch of the W2019. The new flip phone is a stunner and can put most current flagship devices to shame in terms of hardware. Samsung will sell the W2019 in China exclusively although interested buyers can import the device.

The device is constructed with aluminum and Gorilla Glass at the back, however, Samsung hasn’t made it clear if its two displays are covered with Gorilla Glass or not. The W2019 also has a rather unique hinge for the flip functionality. The flip phone has two displays as well both of which are 4.2-inch Super AMOLED panels and have a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080.

What’s even more exciting is the fact that the device comes with the latest silicone as well which is the Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 6 GB of RAM, either 128GB or 256GB storage which can be expanded using a MicroSD card.

Well, you must be wondering what’s the point of using a flip phone in this day and age when we have super thin and light smartphones which cost way less than the W2019, in that case, let’s take a look at how the W2019 makes any sense and whether or not you should import and buy the W2019 flip phone.

If you’re in your 20s or later then most probably your first smartphone was a flip phone or you’ve at least used one in the past. Almost every device launched in the past couple of years looks and feels the same and there isn’t much differentiation between a $300 device and a $1000 device in terms of design.

Samsung’s new flip phone gets rid of the stale design and offers a retro feel but with a powerful chipset and other flagship specifications. The device features a physical numeric keypad along with the Home, Back, Overview, and Copy buttons around the directional pad.

The W2019 is geared towards those who absolutely love tech and don’t mind splurging on gadgets that are unique, it’s the reason why Samsung isn’t selling the device all over the world. The W2019 is priced at over 10,000 yuan ($1,439 approx) which makes it more expensive than the company’s current flagship device the Galaxy Note 9.

Here’s what’s good about the W2019:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB/256 GB storage.
  • Dual Full HD Super AMOLED displays.
  • The unique retro flip phone design.
  • Dual rear 12 MP cameras (exactly the same as the S9+) | 8 MP selfie camera.
  • Full HD ultra-slow-motion at 960fps.

Here’s what’s ‘not so good’ about the W2019:

  • The device would only be available to purchase in China, hence you’d have to import one.
  • The W2019 isn’t meant for media consumption given that the display size is only 4.2-inches.
  • If you aren’t super passionate about flip phones, then the $1500 device probably isn’t worth your money.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons of the device and if you’re willing to shell out the money for a high-end device with a couple of unique features, then Samsung’s W2019 is definitely worth checking out.
