Update: Verizon started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on June and a short while later, the update was pulled down with no explanation given. Well, the Big Red has once again resumed the rollout and further reinstated the Oreo changelog on the official software pages for the S7 and S7 Edge.

Note that despite everything, the same firmware has been retained for both variants, where you still get build number CRE5 alongside the April 2018 security patches. Hopefully, this time Verizon won’t pull down the update again.

Samsung has never held a glowing reputation for bringing out major software updates even to the premium devices, which is apparent, considering that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were one of the last Android OEM flagships to receive the update. In regard to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, however, the devices started receiving the latest version of Android just last month, beginning with the United Kingdom and then Samsung’s home country of South Korea.

Although the expected release date for the Android Oreo update for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge was May, the beginning of June is when we’re finally seeing it roll out. U.S. network carrier Verizon is the first one to jump the ship with the update, bringing software version R16NW.G930VVRU4CRE5 and R16NW.G935VVRU4CRE5 for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge respectively.

With the new and final major Android version update for the flagship Galaxy devices of 2016, you also get Samsung Experience 9.0 UX along with the standard Oreo features to be pushed out.

While the update may be brand new, the security patch that comes with the Oreo update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is from April. Speaking of security updates, Verizon is also rolling out a security patch from the month of May for the LG V30 right now. The OTA update is staged, so it might take a few days for Verizon users across the United States to receive the update.
