Unlocked Xperia SP up for pre-order in the US on Sony’s online store

Sony has made a new mid-range handset – the Xperia SP – up for pre-order on its official online store in the US, at a price of $489.99, adding an option for those unwilling to fork out cash for the costlier unlocked Xperia Z and ZL in their search for a new smartphone.

The Xperia SP is something of an odd proposition in the mid-range segment, and not in a bad way – while it’s powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Krait processor (clocked at 1.7GHz) usually found in mid-range devices, the GPU inside is an Adreno 320 found in the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, which should give it some blazing performance in graphics-heavy apps and games compared to other devices in the same price range.

As far as the rest of the specs are concerned, the Xperia SP doesn’t disappoint with a 4.6″ 720p display, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, HSPA+ 42mbps and NFC connectivity, and a 2,370mAh battery. The device runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, with Sony’s custom UI on top.

The Xperia SP is a pretty good all-round smartphone for its asking price, and will start shipping from May 20th in both black and white color options. Hit the source link for more details and to pre-order this efficient mid-ranger.
