TP-Link's smart home brand Tapo has entered the smart lock market with an impressively affordable option. The new Tapo DL100 smart deadbolt costs just $70 but comes packed with features typically found in devices costing twice as much or more.

The DL100 stands out with its comprehensive connectivity options. Unlike many budget smart locks that rely solely on Bluetooth, this model includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This dual connectivity ensures you can control your lock remotely without needing an additional hub or bridge device.

For access, the lock offers remarkable versatility. You can unlock your door using the Tapo app, your fingerprint, a keypad code, or a traditional key. The fingerprint reader can store up to 50 different prints, making it convenient for households with multiple members.

The keypad allows you to create temporary access codes for visitors or service providers. You can set these codes to work only during specific time periods, enhancing your home's security when giving access to others.

Installation appears straightforward, with Tapo claiming the lock fits standard doors without requiring additional drilling. The device runs on four AA batteries, which the company says will last up to 10 months with normal use.

The DL100 works with Tapo's existing smart home ecosystem and can be integrated into routines with other Tapo devices. For example, you could set up a routine where unlocking your door automatically turns on your Tapo smart lights.

The Tapo DL100 is available now through the company's website and major retailers. At $70, it significantly undercuts competitors like August, Yale, and Schlage, whose similar feature-rich models typically cost $150-250.
