The Sprint Galaxy S4 Spark (L720T) is receiving an OTA update with an update to the Factory Reset Protection feature that rolled out earlier in May alongside the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the device.

For the unknown, the ‘Factory Reset Protection’ was first introduced with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices by Google running the first builds of Android 5.0 Lollipop. What this feature does is that it prevents your device from being factory reset without your authorization. When you’ve ‘Factory Reset Protection’ enabled, then your device cannot be factory reset via recovery nor via Odin, you can’t even flash anything from Odin when FPR is enabled, not even stock Samsung firmwares.

This update to the Sprint Galaxy S4 Spark L720T is coming with build number L720TVPECOF1. And since it’s related to FPR, we’d be cautious before taking the OTA update as it’ll most probably update the bootloader on the device, which again might not be downgradeable to previous builds (L720TVPUCOD2).

Also, when it’s about FPR, chances are good that it’ll break the current root method for the Sprint S4 Spark. If you care about root access, we’d recommend you wait for a few days of before installing the OF1 OTA update, and patiently wait what the community has to say about it and if it’s root friendly or not.
