What to know
• Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now stream their owned games through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
• The service launches with 50 supported titles including popular games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Final Fantasy XIV.
• You need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription ($19.99/month) and must own the supported games to use this feature.
Microsoft has rolled out a new update to its Xbox Cloud Gaming service that lets you stream games you already own. This new feature marks a significant expansion of the cloud gaming capabilities previously limited to the Game Pass catalog.
The streaming service works across multiple devices including smartphones, PCs, selected Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets. You can access your games through a web browser at Xbox.com/Play or via the Xbox app on supported devices.
The initial rollout includes 50 high-profile titles, featuring games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Microsoft plans to expand this list in the coming months to include more games from players’ libraries.
While this update brings more flexibility to your gaming experience, you’ll need to keep your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription active to use the streaming feature. Additionally, a controller is required for gameplay as touch controls are not currently supported for these streamed titles.
Microsoft has announced plans to bring this feature to Xbox consoles and the Xbox app for PC in 2025, further expanding the ways you can access your game library. This move puts Xbox in a stronger position to compete with other cloud gaming services, though its current offering of around 380 cloud-enabled games still trails behind some competitors.
This latest development showcases Microsoft’s commitment to making Xbox gaming more accessible across different platforms, truly embodying their philosophy that anything capable of playing Xbox games can be considered an Xbox.
