Despite all hopes, speculation and belief that the Sony Xperia V, the 007 phone’s slightly toned down water-resistant cousin would be out by December before the holidays, it doesn’t look like that’s happening now, at least in Europe.
Sony France tweeted earlier today that the Xperia V launch will be delayed by a month, and will debut on shelves in January. However, Sony also conveyed some positive news along with the disappointing bit, in that the suggested retail price for the Xperia V is now down by €20 to €529 as against the original price of €549. On a less serious note, every manufacturer should be mandatorily made to reduce the pricing by €20 for each month of delay, I guess, then, we should see devices launching well in time before the expected date, no? The other positive bit, is that instead of the originally planned Android 4.0 ICS, the Xperia V will now ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. That should do Sony’s reputation for delayed updates a world of good.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Sony Xperia V, it is an LTE capable device which packs a 4.3 inch HD LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB Internal Storage, an impressive 13 MP Main Camera and 3 MP Front-facing camera, a 1750 mAh battery, and Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.
