Snapchat has made its mark in the world with its famous disappearing snaps and messages. While in the past couple of years they have mainly moved toward sharing social lives with a larger audience, they did add a small feature for the ‘not-so-global’ of us. Snapchat’s Private Story feature is for those of us that want to share our private life with the people that truly matter!
What is a Private Story on Snapchat?
The Private Story feature on Snapchat lets you choose the audience for your stories. While it still follows the same ’24-hour disappearing snaps’ concept of Snapchat stories, you can now decide who will be able to view those stories.
You can identify a Private Story by the purple ring around it, and the little lock icon. Private Stories only appear to those who have been added to the Private Story list. If a user is not on a Private Story list, they will not be notified of a new story. Once you create a Private Story it will remain in your account until you delete it. Like your Snapchat Story, you can keep posting to it whenever you like.

How to name Private Stories
Since Private Stories are more personalized, and usually for a smaller audience, Snapchat lets you set a name for them. You can name a private story when you create it. You can also change the name of the Private Story once it has been created. By default, when you create a Private Story, Snapchat names it ‘(Your name’s) Private Story’.
Launch the Snapchat app, and go to your profile by tapping the Bitmoji avatar in the top left corner.
Now tap the ‘+ New Story’ button then select ‘Private Story’ to create a new one.
Select the people you would like to be able to see your story and tap ‘Create Story’.
Now it’s time to name your story. If you’re looking for some good names for your Private story, check out our list below.

Where do Private Story names show up?
When you post a snap to your private story, all your friends that you have added to the Private Story list can view the story. However, the story still shows up under your user name. The Private Story name can only be seen once you open the first snap of the story. The name of the story is displayed in the top left corner of the snap.
How to rename a Private Story
Even if you have an old Private Story, you can rename it at any point. When you rename the private story, the new name will appear in the top left corner the next time you post a snap to that story.
To rename a Private Story, go to your profile and locate the Private story. Now tap the three dots to the right of the story’s name.
Tap ‘Name Story’ to change the current name of the Private Story.
How to add people to your Private Story
You can always go back and add more people to your Private Story. To add people to your Private Story, locate the story in your profile, and tap the three dots to the right of the story Name.
Tap ‘See Viewers’. Here you can choose who you want to keep on your Private Story list and who you would like to remove.
How long do Private Stories last
Snaps posted to Private Stories expire after 24 hours (just like regular stories). The created Private Story in your account will last indefinitely. You can always come back and post new snaps to your Private Story.
