What to know

  • Meta has launched testing of custom feeds in Threads, allowing users to create personalized feeds for specific topics and profiles.
  • Users can create custom feeds by searching for topics and adding profiles, with the ability to manage up to 128 different feeds.
  • The feature arrives as Threads reaches 275 million users while competitor Bluesky experiences rapid growth with 17 million users.

Threads is testing a new feature that lets you create personalized feeds. This move, as announced by Mark Zuckerberg on Threads, aims to give you more control over the content you see on the platform.

The process to create a custom feed is straightforward. You can search for a topic you’re interested in, tap the three-dot menu next to the search term, and select “create new feed.” You can also add specific profiles to your custom feeds by tapping the three-dot icon above their profile photo and selecting the add to feed option.

These custom feeds will appear alongside the existing “For You” and “Following” tabs in the main menu. The feeds will display a mix of posts from profiles you’ve added and search results for your selected topics, all arranged in reverse chronological order to keep you up to date with the latest content.

This Threads feature is similar to Bluesky’s custom feeds that were launched last year. The timing of this test’s testing phase also coincides with interesting developments in the social media landscape. While Threads boasts over 275 million monthly active users, competitor Bluesky has been gaining momentum, recently adding a million new users in just 24 hours following the U.S. election.

Currently, the custom feeds feature is available to a limited number of users worldwide as part of the testing phase. Meta plans to expand access to more users shortly, though the “For You” feed will remain the default view for now.
