Everything happens on the opening beach of Chapter 3 – Those Before Us, in the sub-chapter Paradise, right after you come ashore, so confirm you are at that beach before you go hunting for it.

Once you are on the Paradise beach, ignore the objective path for a moment and walk the shoreline to the turtle — the whole thing takes only a few seconds.

Reasons the turtle trophy fails to unlock
The most common miss is simply never seeing the turtle. When you spawn under the Follow the plunderers’ tracks objective, the natural move is to walk straight ahead along those tracks, which leads you away from the water and past the encounter entirely. The turtle sits back along the shore in the other direction — the video shows heading left, and some players describe it as turning roughly 180° from the objective marker, but both descriptions land you at the same spot, so just sweep the shoreline until you find it.
The other two traps are about timing and expectation. Because there is no interaction icon, players assume they are in the wrong place and wander off — the event is purely proximity-triggered, so being near the turtle is all it takes. And even players who find it sometimes leave the moment the turtle appears; the pop only happens once the turtle has crawled all the way back into the sea, so stay put those extra couple of seconds.
