There is nothing new on Samsung Oreo update front, such is the dire state of 8.0 news on the Korean mobile giant.
Samsung has kept the Galaxy Xcover series alive this year. Unlike Galaxy A8 and Galaxy C9 series, which haven’t receive a fresh launch this year, Samsung released the Galaxy Xcover 4 back in April. Well, will it remain fully loyal — and quick — to release the Android Oreo update too for the Xcover 4, or possibly the Xcover 3? Well, let’s discuss.
BTW, besides Oreo news, this page also brings you firmware download link of the software updates Samsung has released for the Galaxy Xcover 3 (SM-G388F), Galaxy Xcover 3 Value Edition (SM-G389F) and Galaxy Xcover 4 (SM-G390F).
Galaxy Xcover 3 Android Oreo update
- Not eligible for Android Oreo update
Of the three Galaxy Xcover smartphones Samsung has launched so far, only the Galaxy Xcover 4 is eligible in Samsung’s eyes for the Android 8.0 Oreo update. If you thought it’s not fair to exclude Galaxy Xcover 3 Value edition for Oreo update, we’re with you, mate!

Galaxy Xcover 3 Value edition update timeline (SM-G389F)
Samsung released the Galaxy Xcover 3 Value edition smartphone in April 2016, about 16 months before Google released Android Oreo update in August 2017. If we are to believe the 18 months software update policy usually adopted by OEMs when talking about major Android OS updates, the Xcover 3 Value edition is a definite candidate for Oreo.
However, knowing Samsung, we don’t think the Xcover 3 Value edition would be in the company’s plans to release Android 8.0 OTA. To vindicate this, let us tell you that Samsung is yet to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Xcover 3 Value edition. So, chances of this device grabbing an Oreo OTA remains very, very slim.
Expected Oreo release: Not expected.

Galaxy Xcover 3 update and firmware download (SM-G388F)
Launched ages ago, with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS, the device is quite old and doesn’t stand a chance to Oreo update. Which is alright.
