How to Root Sprint Note 5 on Marshmallow 6.0.1 with SuperSU 2.68

The Sprint Note 5 received a leaked build of Marshmallow 6.0.1 engineering firmware, and as per user’s feedback, root is easily achievable on the freshest release of Android running on a Note 5.

All you need to root Sprint Note 5 on Marshmallow 6.0.1 is a custom recovery like TWRP and Chainfire’s SuperSU v2.68 systemless root.

Systemless root is a new type of root by Chainfire developed specifically to get around the trouble of flashing a custom kernel and setting SELinux to permissive. With systemless root keeps SELinux running in enforcing mode (for a number of security reasons) and also doesn’t modify the system partition, so you can easily install OTA updates.

Upon flashing SuperSU v2.68 via TWRP recovery, your device’s boot image will automatically be patched to allow system-less root on your Sprint Note 5 running on Marshmallow.

Let’s get started..

How to Root Sprint Note 5 Marshmallow 6.0.1
  1. (Important!) Install Marshmallow compatible TWRP on your Sprint Note 5.
  2. Install/Flash SuperSU 2.68.
  3. Reboot device.
  4. If you get into Kernel Panic Mode, just press and hold “Power + Volume Down” for a few seconds to hot boot the device.

That’s all. Enjoy Marshmallow with root on your Sprint Note 5. To verify root access, download/install any root checker app from the Play Store.

Happy Androiding!

  1. Is there is a kernel compatible with sprint note 5 running marshmallow?

    1. I’m looking for the same thing have not found it for the 6.0.1 yet.

  2. When I boot in twrp it doesn’t have the install option and since the note 5 does not have a sd card you can’t apply from sd? What can I do to install SuperSU 2.68

  3. I have the same problem. I don’t see an option for me to install or flash. Right before system go into TWRP mode, I can see an exclamation sign with Android logo tripping down. I think the TWRP via Odin process is not successful

    1. wow, it’s a very tough journey but luckily it finally work. I later got a bootloop ‘Kernal is not SeAndroid enforcing’, then need to use Odin to flash stock firmware. Then realized Knox is tripped anyway, so flash TWRP again and finally success! Thanks ChainFire!

      1. Did all your android data get erased in the process of flashing TWRP? Also can you show me to the link where you got the file from? Thanks bro.
