Update 2 (October 5th, 2016): Google announced Pixel and Pixel XL officially yesterday and will be selling it unlocked world over. So you’ll be able to bootloader unlock Pixel and Pixel XL phones, get TWRP recovery and easily root your Pixel phones.
Update (September 23rd, 2016): Turns out, rooting the new Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones won’t be possible by the current rooting methods. Although, it shouldn’t take long for Chainfire and other folks in the Android community to come around with a more advanced rooting solution, but it’ll take some time.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices will be launching with Android Nougat but with a newer version of the release — Android 7.1. The update is rumored to release with build number NDE63B.

We recently did a post on Android 7.1 rooting, explaining how it might not be as easier to root Android 7.1 as it’s for the current versions of Android.

Google’s switch from Nexus to Pixel series for Android phones could be more than mere re-branding. The search engine giant might also introduce security enhancements with Pixel and Pixel XL devices that break the current rooting methods.

Although, it’s hardly possible that you won’t be able to get root on a Google device, but with the new Pixel series and Android 7.1, rooting might get less secure as developers try to break through new security protocols on the Pixel and Pixel XL devices.

We’ll be sure to update this post once Pixel and Pixel XL devices are out and get tested with current rooting methods. Stay tuned with us..

Happy Androiding!
