Back in the day, rooting was more of a way to express freedom than try out all sorts of shady things. Ever since Google has made the strong push for tighter security, Android OEMs like Samsung have joined the league and made it downright impossible to root the Snapdragon variant of its Galaxy devices.
While you can easily root and install TWRP recovery on even the Galaxy S9 and S9+ Exynos versions right now, there was no way to root Galaxy S8 and Note 8 Snapdragon variants, until now. Thanks to Safestrap recovery that makes use of the SamFail exploit, you can now enjoy root access on your Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
The Safestrap recovery is based on TWRP 3.2.1, but since the SamFail exploit that it uses has already been patched, there are some limitations to it. For instance, you can only install the Safestrap recovery on devices running Android Nougat, so for those of you who have already upgraded to Oreo, you’d need to downgrade to get the root access. Moreover, the battery charging capacity of your Galaxy device would be limited to 80%, which may be a deal-breaker for some.
