The one good thing about using the official OxygenOS Open Beta software on your OnePlus phone is early access to new features and the latest Open Beta 28 for OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 26 for OnePlus 5T are testaments to this.
In a changelog that has just been published by the company in its official OnePlus forums, the two beta updates tag along a new animation for flight mode as well as the ability to select contact groups for sending SMS in the messaging app.
Among the optimizations the updates bring to OnePlus 5 and 5T include notifications for quick settings and battery consumption, but of course, there are more system-wide optimizations for better performance. The update also installs this month’s Android security patch.
The OnePlus 5 duo has already received two major Android OS updates, but looking at what’s happening with OnePlus 3 and 3T with respect to Android 9 Pie, it’s likely that an update to Android Q is being lined up for the 2017 pair.
Google is expected to release the first developer preview of Q anytime this week and unlike last year where only a single OnePlus device took part in the beta testing phase, we are looking forward to not only seeing more OnePlus devices, but also more OEMs taking part in the upcoming beta program.
