Update [November 10, 2016]:Â OnePlus X just received a new Marshmallow based update from the OP team today as OxygenOS 3.1.4 that patches the brightness bug and launch crashes on the device, along with installing November patch, system improvements and general bug fixes. See the download section below for OTA zip and Full ROM zip. As there is going to be no Android 7.0 Nougat update for the device, this is all you can get right now.
Update [September 30, 2016]: The OnePlus team has released a quick patch with OxygenOSÂ 3.1.3 over the 6.0 Marshmallow 3.1.2 update that they released only day before yesterday. Most probably, it fixes the Google+ bug with the device, and should increase the battery life too of the device. Download links are provide for both the 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 below. OnePlus has already promised the release of Marshmallow update as stable build pretty happening pretty quickly after releasing the OxygenOS 2.2.3 update earlier, and now the time has come!
At their Reddit AMA too, the OnePlus team had promised that the Marshmallow update would soon arrive for the OnePlus X, but while they said next week there, it’s good to see it happening already!
One thing that may surprise you a bit more than usual is October security patch. We’re still in September, so it looks like Google is able to distribute the patches for the month in the preceding month itself, giving OEMs ample time to integrate them into updates, or prepare a new update for this only if need be.
OnePlus just released the OxygenOS 2.2.3 update for the OnePlus X, and also confirmed that the next update is coming soon, and that it would be Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. OnePlus says that the 2.2.3 update is a pre-requisite for Marshmallow, so we would urge our OnePlus X owning friends to grab the 2.2.3 update right away.
We would be providing the downloads of the OxygenOS 2.2.3 update for OnePlus X for sure, once they become available.
OnePlus is too late to deliver the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to the X, but now that it’s around the corner, why rue the delay than celebrate the incoming Android 6.0.1 update, right?
As for the OxygenOS 2.2.3 update, which is pretty small at 17MB, here’s the changelog it comes bearing.
- Implemented September Android security patches
- Fixed Quadrooter security vulnerability
- Added necessary dependencies for Marshmallow upgrade
You get the September level patch, which is latest, and also fix for the Quadrooter vulnerability. Though, what would interest you the most is the addition of necessary Marshmallow code (dependencies), so that the Android 6.0.1 update installed fine when it comes.

How to install OnePlus X OTA and Full ROM ZIP
To install, copy the update to your OnePlus X, and then reboot into recovery mode and use the stock recovery of your device — TWRP is not preferred — to install the update, using install option there.
You can also use ADB sideload to install this. See the guide here for help, as the method is exactly same.
OnePlus X Marshmallow update: Expected release date
The update has released today, on the September 28, 2016. We hoped it would release by early October, but it’s live already in the last 3 days of September.
While even that isn’t a quick release, we hope history doesn’t repeat itself for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2 Nougat updates, as OnePlus X for one, isn’t in contention for Android 7.0 update because of incompatibility of its Snapdragon 801 processor.
OnePlus X Nougat update: Expected release date
Expected release date: Never.
We knew it for long that because of the incompatibility of Snapdragon 801 chip with Android 7.0 Nougat, OnePlus X would not receive the 7.0 update officially. And now, the OnePlus team had confirmed it themselves, over at the Reddit AMA that took place yesterday.
So, you’re left with the choice of custom ROMs, based on AOSP, most popular of which is CM14. It’s already available in alpha stage, so if you wanna try, you can give it a go right away, and get the taste of Nougat now. We’d recommend you doing that, but be sure to gather all required info before you jump into this, as wrong installation can even brick your device.
