It has been a couple of months since the Moto E3 and E3 Power released to the markets, but TWRP recovery for the device made it to the official channels only today.

With the official TWRP now available, you can root Moto E3 easily via SuperSU or Magisk zip. If you happen to use Android Pay or play Pokemon Go, we recommend you to go with the Magisk systemless root method to root your Moto E3 so that you can easily disable root access (on-the-fly) when needed.

Note: Installing a custom recovery like TWRP requires that you’ve unlocked bootloader on your device. Check the instructions below for help with that.

How to Install TWRP and Root Moto E3

  1. Unlock bootloader on your Moto E3.
  2. Download TWRP recovery .img file from the download link above to your PC.
  3. Install/flash TWRP recovery .img via Fastboot.
  4. Once you’ve TWRP recovery installed, take a full nandroid backup of your device using TWRP’s Backup option.
  5. Get root access: There are two ways you can root Moto E3. Read the descriptions of both carefully before you decide.
    1. SuperSU zip – If you just want root access and want it quick without workarounds to Safetynet to be able to use Android Pay or play Pokemon Go while rooted. Then getting root via SuperSU zip would serve the purpose. Follow the link below for detailed step-by-step guide.
