Instagram is the most popular image sharing application in the world. There are over 1 billion monthly active users on Instagram and there are around 95 million photos and videos shared per day on the platform. The application has received several major updates over the years and has even brought over features from its rival Snapchat.

The now Facebook-owned image sharing platform does not seem to be slowing down when it comes to rolling out new features and updates for its application on both Android as well as iOS. There are several updates in the works which would be made available in the near future.

So let’s take a look at a few updates for Instagram which we might see soon.

New ‘Cards’ UI

The ‘Cards’ UI would replace the traditional UI in which users have to scroll vertically to view posts. The new UI would allow users to scroll horizontally to view posts in a card-style layout which borrows a few design cues from the discontinued Facebook Paper application.

This new UI was brought to our attention by a tweet from the WABetaInfo account on the micro-blogging site Twitter in which you could see a video showcasing the new UI. In this new UI, the Profile and Direct tabs will be inverted as well.

Currently, there is no word out as to when we would get to see the new ‘Cards’ UI for Instagram, however, the update should show up soon on the beta version of Instagram soon.

Mutual following tab

Instagram might be adding a ‘mutual following’ tab to show users if they have any mutual followers while viewing other users Instagram accounts, which is similar to Facebook.

The feature is currently being tested on iOS, however, it’s likely to be rolled out on the Instagram app for Android as well.

Redesigned Profile

Sadly, this feature too is currently only being tested on the iOS version of the application, however, it’s more than likely that the new profile design would make its way over to Instagram’s Android application too.

The new profile design looks quite cool, however, the finalized design might have a few differences. Much like the other expected updates, there’s no word on when we could see the new profile design.
