Motorola’s Moto Z Play is receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in India. The update comes a few days after the OS started rolling out to the high-end Moto Z in Europe and while India is the first market to get Oreo on the OG Z Play, it shouldn’t be long before other markets join in the fun.
The Moto Z Play Oreo update is rolling out as software version OPN27.76-12-22 and besides installing the new OS, you also get a new security patch for the month of April 2018 alongside the usual performance and stability enhancements.
It’s a little off that the Moto Z Play is receiving Oreo ahead of the Moto Z2 Play, which started testing the OS a while ago. Also, whether this is a soak test is still unclear, but it’s unlikely.

The Oreo update is rolling out over the air and thus it will take a few days before all units in India get the OTA notification. As noted, we also expect other regions to start receiving the OS soon. As you wait for the download notification, you can also try a manual update via Settings > About phone > System updates.
