Update [August 02, 2019]: Motorola just announced the August update for the Moto G7 Power too. We hope that the update arrives on the Verizon’s G7 Power soon. So, besides the six devices mentioned below, G7 Power is the 7th Motorola handset to have August 2019 security patch rolling out soon.
Motorola has started to roll out a security update for Moto G7 Play, Moto G6, Moto G6 Play, Moto G5s, Moto G5s Plus, and Moto E5 Play, bringing the August security patch to the devices.
Apart from updating the Android security patch to August 1st, 2019, the update for also fixes known bugs and improve the stability of the devices.
As it’s an incremental OTA update, it might take a while for Motorola to push the automatic update notification to your phone.
To check for an update and initiate it manually on your Moto G6, Moto G5s, Moto G5s Plus, or Moto E5 Play, go to Settings app > scroll down and tap ‘System updates’ > tap ‘Check for new system update’.
With Android Q around the corner, you may be curious if any of these devices are gonna see an update to the upcoming Android OS release. Well, Motorola has yet to announce its official list of devices for Android Q, we think that of the above, only the Moto G7 Play will be treated to Android Q. Motorola doesn’t prepare two OS updates for its G series, and the G5 and G6 sets have already had one.
