You get Shell Points in Mortal Shell 2 by leveling up the Harbinger at Beacons with Gloom; they are milestone rewards, not points you buy separately for each Shell.
The progression screen brings several resources and restrictions together, which makes Shell Points seem more complicated than they are. Once you separate Harbinger levels from Shell-specific Bond progression, the system becomes much easier to manage.
What Shell Points are used for

Shell Points are perk points used to activate passive abilities for the Shells you inhabit. These passives let you shape a build around damage, survivability, elemental effects, or other abilities available in a Shell’s perk tree.
Earning a point does not automatically activate anything. You must allocate it through the Shell Abilities menu after meeting the relevant Bond and capacity requirements.
How to earn Shell Points
Gather Gloom

Accumulate Gloom through combat, trials, dungeons, and normal progression.
Rest at a Beacon

Interact with any Beacon to access the Harbinger progression menu.

Choose the Harbinger level-up option

Select the Harbinger upgrade and use Gloom to advance its level.
Check the reward preview

Look at the row along the bottom of the level-up screen to see whether the selected level awards Shell Points; these milestones do not occur every level.
Complete the level-up

Confirm the upgrade to receive the displayed Shell Points alongside the Harbinger’s normal stat improvements.

How Gloom, Glimpses, and Bond Tiers connect
| Resource | Use |
|---|---|
| Shell Points | Activate unlocked passive Shell abilities. |
| Gloom | Pays for Harbinger level-ups at Beacons. |
| Glimpses | Raise an individual Shell’s Bond; one reaches Bond Tier 1, while 27 total max that Shell at Tier 4. |
| Bond Tiers | Unlock higher-tier perk options and additional Shell memories. |
| Shell Point capacity | Limits how many abilities a particular Shell can have active. |
Key A Shell ability has to pass two separate gates: its row must be available through that Shell’s Bond progression, and the selected build must remain within the Shell’s Shell Point capacity. Having spare Shell Points does not bypass either restriction.
This means a larger Shell Point pool gives you more choices, while Glimpses determine which higher-tier choices are available for each Shell.
Where to spend and refund Shell Points
You can allocate Shell Points through the Shell Abilities menu at any Beacon. The same options are available by speaking to the Shell Keeper in Marrow Keep.
All Shells draw from a single shared pool, although each Shell has its own passive tree and capacity. Refunds are free, so you can recover allocated points and reshape a build without spending another currency.

Common Shell Point mistakes

Do not treat Shell Points as a separate progression track for every Shell. Obtaining or switching to another Shell does not create a new set of points to earn, and Harbinger levels do not award a point every time.
Glimpses cannot purchase Shell Points directly. They advance a Shell’s Bond and open its higher-tier options, while the points used to activate those options still come from Harbinger milestone levels.
What to grind after earning Shell Points
If you need more Shell Points, prioritize earning Gloom and converting it into additional Harbinger levels. Keep an eye on the Beacon’s reward preview instead of relying on a fixed milestone list.
Once that leveling loop is established, choose a main Shell and concentrate Glimpses on its Bond path. This opens a coherent set of higher-tier passives instead of leaving several Shells partially developed.
Skip the old giant mantis farm near the Mushroom Village Beacon. That shortcut has been patched out, so use current Gloom sources found through regular progression.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you farm Shell Points directly?
No. Shell Points are not separate enemy drops or activity rewards; the repeatable grind is for the Gloom needed to reach more Harbinger level milestones.
Are Shell Points shared between Shells?
Yes. Points earned while using one Shell remain available after you switch, so a new Shell does not start from an empty pool.
Can you respec Shell Points for free?
Yes. You can refund individual allocations for small adjustments or perform a full reset when rebuilding a Shell’s passive setup.
