Cid’s Castle drops every crafting material the sword needs, so this stage is a farming loop capped by a single big turn-in.
- Farm the Shadow Sword materials in Cid’s Castle — Keep running Cid’s Castle to gather 100 Black Slime, 6 Shadow Fragments, 12 Shadow Orbs, and 2 Atomic Orbs, since the raid drops all of them.
- Return to the Shadow NPC to claim Shadow Sword — Bring the full material stack plus 7,500,000 coins and 15,000 gems back to the Shadow NPC on Frostborn Island and turn everything in to receive Shadow Sword.
Completing Shadow Mastery and the arm move
With Shadow in hand you start the mastery chain from its own NPC, and finishing every step here unlocks the sword’s arm move.
- Talk to the Shadow Mastery NPC — Find the Shadow Mastery NPC to open the mastery quest chain for Shadow Sword.
- Deal 10 million damage with Shadow Sword — Keep Shadow Sword equipped and grind enemies until you reach 10,000,000 total damage with it.
- Roll the Eminence race — Visit the race NPC and re-roll until you land the Eminence race.
- Equip the Eminence in Shadow title — Set the Eminence in Shadow title before moving on, since the next check reads whichever title is active.
- Defeat 35 bosses — Head to Legends Arena and repeatedly summon easier bosses until you hit 35 boss kills.
- Clear Cid’s Castle 15 times on Hard or Extreme — Finish 15 Cid’s Castle runs on Hard or Extreme to close out the mastery and unlock the arm move.
Treat Cid’s Castle as your home base — it drops the Shadow Sword materials and, run on the right tier, also feeds both the five questline clears and the 15 Hard/Extreme mastery clears, so stacking runs saves the most time.

Best farming order and mistakes to avoid
The smartest way to run this is to let one grind cover several requirements at once. Farm your Shadow Sword materials in Cid’s Castle, and the clears you bank on Medium or higher also count toward the questline runs; later, your Hard and Extreme runs feed the mastery clears. Just avoid Easy — anything below the required tier doesn’t register, so a pile of Easy runs leaves the counter stuck.
The other common trap is mastery damage that never lands. The damage requirement only ticks up while Shadow Sword is the weapon in your hand, so switching to something stronger to farm faster quietly stalls it. The race and title work the same way — equip the Eminence race and the Eminence in Shadow title before you check progress with the mastery NPC, or the game reads the step as unmet even after you’ve earned it. These mastery numbers have also shifted between updates, so if a counter looks off after a patch, verify the current values in-game.
