With a device as popular as the Kindle Fire HD 7″, it was only a matter of time, and attention by the right folks in the developer community, before Amazon’s locks on this beauty started getting picked. Hashcode, the master developer who gave us Safestrap Recovery for the Droid Razr HD and the Droid Razr M just a couple of days ago, has now set his sights on the Kindle Fire HD.
While the entire package is not 100% complete yet, and is still being tested, Hashcode has confirmed that he was able to successfully run it on a first-gen Kindle Fire. However, it appears that while testing it further it was found that there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out, so the build is still being tweaked before it can be released for public consumption.
Flashaholics who currently own a KFHD, are probably already drooling at the mere prospect of a working custom recovery on the horizon. What that also means, is that once the final recovery is released by Hashcode, we should start seeing custom ROMs coming out for this really cool tablet.
Those of you who are wondering what Safestrap Recovery is, it is a custom bootstrap/recovery solution for which can be used to flash Custom ROMs as well as to perform a complete backup, or restoration of your existing ROM. Safestrap allows you to flash custom ROMs, while keeping your primary or stock system partition safe – hence the name Safestrap.
Safestrap is also a pretty powerful tool, and it is highly advisable to do some reading up, before you actually install it and start tinkering with it. Hashcode’s site would be a good place to start your mini-course on Safestrap and get introduced to the dark side.
Hashcode and team are working really hard on ironing out all the kinks, and a Safestrap apk should be released as soon as it’s ready. For updates on how the Safestrap recovery development is coming along, you can visit the official development thread on XDA Forums.
