Is this the Xiaomi Mi6?

Xiaomi Mi 6

Update [April 19, 2017]: Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Mi6 now. Find the official images, specs and pricing at our Mi6 announcement page here, while keep a tab on our Xiaomi Mi6 page for all news related to Mi6 and Mi6 ceramic edition.

We are just a day away from the official launch of Xiaomi’s next flagship handset, the Xiaomi Mi6 and there is certainly no dearth of last minute leaks. A new image render of what could be the Mi6 surfaced only revealing a stunning design.

If the above image is believed to be legit, the smartphone will have a dual camera setup at the back, as expected. Although not confirmable, Xiaomi’s next offering seems to don a metal and glass sandwiched body judging by the above images.

Sadly, though, the device doesn’t seem to have a bezel-free display which has become a norm of sorts for flagship handsets of late.

Also, if you observe carefully, the Xiaomi Mi6 from the above image looks like a clear rip-off of — you guessed it — the Huawei Honor 8. We are not sure how legit these images are, but if the final product turns out to be anything as evident from these images, it will be both good news and bad news.

Good because the Honor 8 looks pretty impressive design wise and bad owing to the fact that the Mi6 will be an exact replica of the former minus the placement of fingerprint sensor.

The Xiaomi Mi6 is expected to come with a 5.15-inch Full HD display with Snapdragon 835 under-the-hood. It is believed to come in two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB. In both the cases, it will pack 4GB of RAM. It is expected to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI 9 atop.

A 3,200mAh battery is believed to provide the juice for the handset. Alongside the Mi6, the company is also expected to launch the Mi6 Plus at the same event. While the former is tipped to be priced at CNY 2,199, the latter is said to carry a price tag of CNY 2,699.

  1. Wow :O . The design looks brilliant. I just hope it comes with a bezel less display tomorrow.

    1. The display looks really neat doesn’t it! And its curved on all 4 sides too 😀

    2. Yeah, the Mi6 is a great device, putting a lot to the table, but I still would have wished for a QHD display, but for a 23k smartphone, it really is a bang for buck device. I wonder how do they make any profit :D?

    3. But losing the 3.5mm jack was a bad idea :/ water resistance is not very important and they should’ve found another or not gone with it at all . And obviously this will be a huge con for the people buying the device .Just a matter of time before we know how the market responds.

    4. Yeah, it’s quite obvious with the dual lens camera and a lack of 3.5 mm jack, that they are trying to follow in Apple’s footsteps. With how much the iPhone7 costs, I bet this is their sales gimmick to draw attention.

    5. Most likely thats what they’re doing ,but they don’t have that huge a consumer base to take such a big risk like Apple did and it could go either way .Other than that it does bring a lot of other things to the table 😀

  2. Looks like a fake. On the main picture, there is “Mi” logo on the bottom side while on the picture where it is taken by hand, there is no “Mi” logo.

In any case, the ceramic on the bottom side is disappointing, it is too fragile I think. But I can’t talk behalf of everybody.

    1. I said “bottom” side, but I was talking about the back side. Sorry.

    2. Good spot @prog-amateur, you could be right. Although maybe the one in the hand is just like a prototype version and doesn’t have the Mi logo.

    3. Being a sample it won’t be the same as the retail version 😀

    4. The leaks turned out to be right. 🙂 Good eye though, my friend.
Yes I thought it looks fragile too but apparently, it is wear resistant. We have to wait and see

  3. Now that’s an awesome look!! given the price concern of Xiaomi brand I’m glad that choose to go with the small FHD display rather than the all Bezel-less one like Mi Mix, and I hv to admit, for the price they put a lot of awesome specs in there, dual cameras is just a bonus on this years flagship!! looks more similar to huawei P10 but that’s a great design too!! I just wish that this renders turn out to be true in tomorrow’s event and the specs will be as promising in real life as on paper!!

  4. Honestly, Xiaomi is totally an underrated brand. The specs are great and the design is very sleek and clean!

    1. And very reasonable prices to top it all off!

    2. Agreed. They are getting their due recognition these days.

  5. I’m liking this design, if this is indeed the final look, I’d be 100% happy with that. Looking forward to tomorrow.

  7. Looks like a solid device. What carriers will this be compatible with in the US?

    1. These will most likely be the bands it supports, unless they also release a US version.

      2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
      3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz
      4G: FDD-LTE 1800/2100/2600MHz

    2. I doubt its availability in the US and you will have to import it. However, you might have carrier compatibility issues too. :/ Really not recommended, especially if you plan to use it as your primary phone

  13. Its all good and I love it except for the fact that there is not 3.5mm jack 🙁

    1. I swear man. An unfortunate trend

    2. Seriously it was a bad trade off. They didn’t need an additional camera and didn’t have to sacrifice the jack for it.Still the phone is not that bad and unlike Apple they give a converter with the box and the buyer doesn’t have to spend much to get his earphones working

    3. Enter the era of Bluetooth headsets

    4. Nah .The phone comes with a Type-c to 3.5mm converter so people don’t have to buy bluetooth headsets 😀 although it won’t be possible to listen to music while charging which is a bummer

    5. This whole shift to the no headphone jack phones is a shove towards using Bluetooth headsets. That’s what apple wants it’s users to do and so will the other phone users. I’ve seen so many of my friends with headphone jack-less phones shifting to Bluetooth headsets instead of using converters all the time.

    6. Umm i guess you’re right although I can say that the phones without the 3.5mm jack are not much of a success like the Moto Z and they decided to place it right back on the Z2.I’ve never used a Jack-less phone but I simply feel that I would use the converter as I some bluetooth headsets are too pricey and moreover the type-c offers better music quality when compared to the Bluetooth headsets

    7. Charging the phone or listening to music/other media isn’t a choice I would like to make. I would want to do both and if I’m inclined to buy a phone without jack so much, then I’d be ready to invest in a Bluetooth headset too.
They aren’t all that pricey either. I own a pair of mpow cheetahs worth less than 2k since over a year and they are absolutely satisfactory. That’s the second best thing. First preference, have a normal headphone Jack

    8. Yeah that is a huge trade-off as most people like to charge and use the phone and some also keep it plugged to a power brick almost always although thats not advisable. The reason why I find bluetooth headphones expensive is that you need to pay quite some money and in my terms thats around 2-5k XD to get a decent wireless headphone that comes close to the 3.5mm jacks performance. This might just my opinion XD I see a lot of people walking around with Bluetooth headsets:d

    9. With Bluetooth 5 and all its glorious improvements like more bandwidth and higher range making things like dual audio possible, my bet is on a popular Bluetooth use in the future next gen.
Gone are those times when using phone while charging is supposed to be harmful. The technology has gotten intellectual enough to resist harm with these habits. The only effect it’ll have is reduced charging and throttling due to rise in temperature.
Anyway, we’ve digressed quite a bit from the topic my friend. Lets wrap this up here.

    10. Lol yeah we have and I just noticed that its gotten quite long XD and just correcting myself I didn’t mean its harmful but long-term wise it might not be good for the battery to be under charge at all timed 😀
