Samsung is busy with rolling out the Android Pie Beta update for the company’s 2017 and 2018 flagships as of now; however, the Galaxy J4 was spotted out of the blue on Geekbench running Android Pie.

This brings us to the question; is Samsung working on the Android 9 Pie update for the Galaxy J4 already? Maybe, let’s talk.

As per Samsung’s own update schedule, the Galaxy J4 would be receiving the Android 9 Pie update in April hence seeing the update pop up on Geekbench is not exactly very surprising. It’s easily possible that Samsung has indeed started working on the Android Pie update for the Galaxy J4.

So, even though it’s highly unlikely that the Galaxy J4 is a top priority as of now for Samsung’s Pie rollout right now, it’s not entirely impossible to get the work started already. Our bet would be on someone at Samsung testing an early build of J4 Pie update on Geekbench.

Or, maybe it’s a work of an independent developer preparing an AOSP ROM based on Android 9. Who knows? What we do know is that a custom ROM based on Pie isn’t available till now for the Galaxy J4.

Nonetheless, Samsung’s current focus for the Pie update is the Galaxy S8/S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 for which the Pie update would be released next month after which Samsung would shift the attention to the Pie update for the Galaxy A9 and the Galaxy A7 which are next in line.
