Work Begins for HTC Rezound Ice Cream Sandwich Port. Calling All S-Off’ed Rezounds!

Whether you were kinda dying for a S-Off tool for your HTC Rezound or not, now you will — development has just begun for a custom ROM port of Ice Cream Sandwich on HTC’s best device right now.

It’s obvious you gotta have S-Off in bootloader mode to be able to install custom recovery and then flash a custom ROM. So, only those lucky enough to get a Rezound with factory S-Off will be able to install this ROM based on latest OS, Android 4.0, and experience it on what is one of the best screen to grace an android phone, save for Galaxy Nexus which betters it.

It’s pity most of the Rezound phones out there — maybe, more than 98-99%, unless HTC’s security and testing system is flawed — have S-On and thus couldn’t try it, as and when it becomes available. Speaking of which, right now it’s in very alpha version and hasn’t been outed by its developer, IncredibleDoes, who also says it runs and looks good. We don’t doubt it, Rezound’s got a super 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a even gorgeous screen to prove it’s one of the best device to have beautiful Ice Cream Sandwich on.

Those interested can follow the official development thread here for more info, download links (when posted by developer) and get chatty with other users.

  1. I wouldn’t use it.   Until we see a rom that is built off of an HTC leak or release, I’ll stay safe with my phone and wait.

I contacted the BBB about them blocking this and loading a bunch of bloat on my phone and not allowing me to remove what I don’t want.

That’s like a car manufacturer not allowing you to augment and customize your own vehicle that you bought and now belongs to you.

I can understand the justification that preventing root is to ensure the integrity of their network (even though this is bullcrap because rooted phones have zero affect on their network) but disallowing me to remove bloat most certainly has nothing to do with protecting their network….

  3. The Screen on the Rezound is the same as the one on the Galaxy Nexus

    1. Nope!

GN got Super AMOLED HD while that of Rezound is IPS TFT HD screen. Good but not that good in comparison to GN.

Anyway, both these displays are the benchmarks against which all upcoming android phones will be measured.

      1. This is true.  But I wouldn’t call superAMOLED “better”.  Its just different.  If you like the over-saturation of colors on a superAMOLED (people in movies are orange) than it’s the better screen for you.

        1. Hehe… we can have endless debate on this. Btw, I’m a fan of Super AMOLED display since I saw it first time on Galaxy S i9000.

          1. There’s no debate here – you’re throwing your opinion around as fact.  They’re both the same resolution, but the Rezound has the edge in pixel density.

          2. Like I said, the saturation is a personal preference which doesn’t mean its “better” or “worse”. Some people like their skin tones to be Jersey Shore orange. NBD if that’s what floats your boat, who am I to judge.

The rest of what I wrote are documented FACTS about the composition of the product.

but I’m not gonna hold your hand.  Figure out how to do research on your own.   Google is a good start for finding reputable sources.   You’re on your own now, lil buddy!

The clarity of the picture between the two types of screens is practically identical. For the most part superAMOLED is just more power efficient and like I mentioned above, provides a higher saturation of colors…. which would just be personal preference issue there.

I might also mention that while superamoled improved a bit over standard amoled by reducing the gaps between layers, they are more difficult to see in direct sunlight because they emit less light. And since the materials are organic they do degrade overtime.

The IPS TFT LCDS are also capable of a higher pixel per inch density than the super amoleds. The rezound has the highest density lcd on a phone right now and a higher density than the razr which boast the highest density superamoled screen. So you can achieve a more solid picture. However, the amoleds will be less noticeable with lower pixel density because of the saturation causing the gaps to be glared out.

          2. Nice graph…. sad thing is, according to wirefly, the razr has the highest pixel density for superamoleds on the market…. and look how low it is on the list.

But I gotta correct you there on the resolution.

The razr has a resolution of 960 by 540.
            The rezound is 1280×720

          3. Ah, I wasn’t specific enough.  I meant that the Rezound and Galaxy Nexus have the same screen resolutions.

  6. I’ve played around with ICS on the GN and I am not at all impressed by the new OS… theres nothing I want from ICS… I like my Sense 3.5 w/ Gingerbread atm…  it still wows ignorant ppl who have never seen it..  I dont want ICS for god sake!!! esp. after reading all the whiny Gnexus users complain about devs not updating for ICS, boohoo so sad too bad ='(…. if anything i want Sense 4.0…..
