Huawei released the Huawei Y7 last month, with the device featuring a 4,000mAh battery that isn’t typical for most smartphones. The Y7 follows on the heels of the Huawei Y3 and Huawei Y5, of which all three mimic Samsung’s own Galaxy J3, J5, and J7 smartphones. The Chinese OEM continues to provide a Samsung-like phone lineup by announcing the Huawei Y7 Prime in Hong Kong today to rival Samsung’s Galaxy J7 Prime.
The Huawei Y7 Prime features a 5.5-inch 720p IPS LCD panel with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, Adreno 505 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. The Y7, in contrast, has a 5.5-inch, 720p display, 8MP front and 12MP rear cameras, and 4,000mAh battery but has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage to set the device apart from its better-spec’d “big brother.”
One other important point to mention concerns the fact that the Huawei Y7 lacks a fingerprint sensor while the Y7 Prime locates the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device beneath the camera as the Enjoy 7 Plus does. The Y7 Prime brings dual-SIM slots, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, micro-USB charging, LTE, GSM, and CDMA support, alongside of the cherished 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Huawei Y7 Prime will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 UI overlay and costs around $240 USD. Pick will be able to up the Y7 Prime at either VMall or Three.
The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 may provide a dual camera setup, so it’ll be interesting to see how Huawei responds to this with its upcoming Y Prime smartphone series.
