Although Huawei had earlier declared that it will not release its latest EMUI 5.1 to those devices running EMUI 5.0, there seems to be a change of plan. If a new leak is to believed then Huawei will soon start rolling out the EMUI 5.1 and the lucky recipient will be Mate 9.
A screenshot has been leaked showing the Huawei Mate 9 with EMUI version 5.1. and running Android 7.0 Nougat. This gives us hope that Huawei might soon roll out its latest EMUI version for the Mate 9 units. And if it really does, the device will get a bunch of cool features, in addition to the already existent significant Nougat features.

Huawei announced its EMUI 5.1 in February alongside the launch of P10 and P10 Plus which are carrying it. Another Huawei phone which has been launched with EMUI 5.1 layer on top of Android 7.0 Nougat is Honor 8 Pro aka Honor V9.
Meanwhile, the Mate 9 was strangely spotted running a new version of EMUI on top of Android O. Now this was an internal test build spotted an XDA member who claimed it to be still in very early stages.
