On Tuesday, Huawei took the wraps off world’s first LTE powered smartband at an event in London. The wearable will be able supported by Huawei’s 4.5G network that is all set to roll out commercially next year.
The company also revealed that, like most smartbands, the Huawei 4.5G wearable will be capable of monitoring a user’s fitness levels and heart rate, and will be able to connect with other IOT devices, such as smart thermostats and energy readers.
Huawei’s 4.5G LTE network will be capable of delivering data speeds as high as 1GB/sec and will help guide Drones and enable VR. Company president of products and solutions, Ryan Ding, says that the 4.5G pipeline represents the first time that a mobile network is not just focused on people, but is focused on “people and things.”
If the new wearable is similar to Huawei’s current smartband, it should arrive with a 1.4-inch OLED screen, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity, and be resistant to dust and water. The smartband will feature an LTE-M chip designed by Neul, a company bought last year by Huawei.
Huawei has a lot more to reveal about 4.5G pipeline at its pre-MWC event on March 1st in Barcelona.
