The Huawei Honor 8 is a beautifully designed phone and feels great in the hand, and now the it is seeing an update to Android Nougat with EMUI 5.0 (Firmware version: FRD-L02C675B301).
Huawei took time — or noted Samsung’s Nougat homework (what’s new) — to list out all the changes it has made in the EMUI 5.0, over at their forums. We can see that EMotion UI 5.0 is customized from top to bottom, along with new features that Android 7.0 Nougat brings to the table.
The previous version of the custom skin, EMUI 4.1, introduced a nifty power saving feature named ROG power saving. This enabled the user to extend battery life by reducing the resolution of the display, thereby leaving the processor to power a lesser number of pixels.
The updated EMUI 5.0 will be renaming this feature as “Low resolution power saving”. Another addition to the functionality of the OS is My Paradise which lets you create your own private area in your smartphone and store something in secret. Your personal items will be protected with your Fingerprint, making it even more convenient.
EMUI 5.0 also lets you create a clone of your app. They call it “App Twin.” This gives you the option to have two accounts on one device. This isn’t the first time this functionality has appeared on a smartphone as Xiaomi did the same with MIUI 8. But support is currently limited to Facebook and WhatsApp only.
Head over here to check out screenshots of the Huawei Mate 8 running EMUI 5.0. Huawei is now rolling out the Nougat beta for the Honor 8 while an official update is expected to release soon in December 2016. Another Huawei device which has a taste of Nougat is Huawei P9, for which you can download the Android 7.0 firmware right away.
