It’s not the first time details about Huawei Honor’s Oreo update plans are showing up.
For a while now, we’ve known that the Chinese OEM has plans to roll out Oreo to a good number of phones, including the Honor 8 family, the recently released Honor 7X as well as the likes of Honor 9 and Honor 9i, also known as Huawei Mate 10 Lite in other markets.
In fact, the update is already rolling out to Honor 8 Pro users in India, but not so long ago, news broke out that Honor has no plans to give a similar treat to the standard Honor 8. Even before we establish how true this is, the company has taken to its official Chinese forums to confirm the Oreo roadmap and at the same time end confusion surrounding the Honor 8 Oreo update.
In the list of phones that will receive EMUI 8.0-based Android Oreo is the Honor 8. While this list has more to do with the Chinese market, it does suggest that the update will also be rolled out to the device in other markets, including India, contrary to Honor India’s previous claim.
Besides the Honor 8, other devices that have also been included in the list are:
- Honor 9
- Honor V9 (Honor 8 Pro)
- Honor 7X
- Honor 8 Lite (Huawei P9 Lite 2017/Huawei P8 Lite 2017/ Nova Lite/Huawei GR3 2017)
- Honor V8
- Honor Note 8 (Honor V8 Max).
Also on the list are the Huawei Honor 9 Lite and V10, both of which have Android Oreo out of the box.
Honor is quite clear that the updates are currently testing, but there’s no mention of a specific release date. It may take weeks before the testing phase is over, but of course, the update won’t be rolled out to all devices at the same time. We also don’t know any order of preference, but you can expect the newer handsets to get the treat ahead of the older ones.
