Huawei has been testing Android 9 Pie beta on the Mate 20 Lite and Honor 8X for several weeks now. The company has already pushed a number of beta updates to these two phones and while many were hoping that this should be the update that brings the stable Pie, it turns out it’s yet another beta release.
This doesn’t mean you should ignore it, though, especially if you are already trialing EMUI 9.0 beta. As part of the rollout, both the Huawei Mate 20 Lite and Honor 8X will receive a new Android security patch for February 2019.
The same update also comes with improvements to Huawei Share user experience as well as optimizations to recording stability and clarity in certain scenarios, so be sure to grab one once the OTA arrives.
Speaking of which, both devices are receiving EMUI 9.0.1.156, which requires at least version 9.0.1.150 in order to make the switch, so make sure this requirement is met.
It’s worth noting that the duo is receiving the new EMUI 9.0 beta update in China. Here, the Mate 20 Lite, which is known as Maimang 7, has model number SNE-AL00 while Honor 8X has multiple variants with model numbers JSN-AL00, JSN-AL00a, and JSN-TL00.
The rollout is gradual, which means some users will get it ahead of others, so don’t worry if your friends already have it and you don’t.
