The mid-range smartphone Desire 816 that was launched in 2014 is all set to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The device was released with Android 4.4 KitKat platform will start receiving the fresh new Lollipop look soon as HTC is believed to be working on the update.

As per HTC ROM developer LlabTooFeR, the Desire 816 smartphone will be getting the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop in April. It remains unclear if the handset will receive the Sense 7 UI that went official with the One M9 this month.

The Desire 816 is priced at $200 in the US market without a contract. It is the best mid range smartphone launched ever and also the largest in the Desire lineup from the vendor.

Talking of specifications, the Desire 816 boasts of a 5.5 inch HD Super LCD 2 display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz supplemented with 1.5 GB of RAM powers the device from within. There is 8 GB of onboard storage that can be expanded externally up to 128 GB.

The device has a 13 MP primary camera at the back clubbed with LED flash and 1080 FHD video recording and a 5 MP front-facing snapper for video calling with support to HD video recording. Connectivity wise, there is Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS with a-GPS in the HTC Desire 816. A 2,600 mAh battery energizes the device delivering a decent backup.
