Facebook is one of the most popular social media apps that is used by over two billion people around the world. With almost everyone stuck at home due to COVID-19, it is no surprise that the usage statistics of the app have significantly gone up in the past few weeks.
Although a great way to keep in touch with your network, constant notifications from Facebook can often end up being a hindrance for those working from home. Or simply too much Facebook for anyone. Which is why it’s cool of Facebook to release a new feature that will help you curb down your Facebook usage without losing important updates from your groups and contacts. Let’s take a look at it.
What is Quiet Mode?
Quiet Mode is a new feature on Facebook that helps you curb down on your usage of the app. It allows you to concentrate on the work at hand without getting distracted by constant push notifications. Unlike the previously existing mute feature on Facebook, Quiet Mode helps pause most push notifications from Facebook and even disables badges on your home screen.
This is a step by Facebook towards the promotion of Digital Wellbeing in their app, something that both Google and Apple are extensively increasingly supporting through their mobile OSes.
What does Quiet Mode on Facebook do?
Simply put, Quiet Mode helps you focus on your life and work without getting distracted by constant updates from your social media network on Facebook. The feature works by pausing almost all your notifications instead of muting them. This pause feature enables the app to suppress all notifications including banners and badges on your home screen.
We say almost all push notifications because some notifications might be allowed despite having Quiet Mode active. These notifications include the likes of privacy agreement updates and disaster notifications as Facebook is legally required to notify you about such changes and events.
Note: If you access Facebook while Quiet Mode is turned on, you will get a notification stating the amount of time left on your break before you will need to close the app. By default, this break time is set to a duration of 15 minutes.
How can I use Quiet Mode?
Quiet Mode can either be turned on manually or be scheduled according to your liking. This allows you to specify a daily time frame for Quiet Mode which will allow Facebook to automatically turn it on without you having to open the app.
You can even specify days in your Quiet Mode schedule which will allow you to selectively disable the feature on certain days automatically. You can use this ability to disable Quiet Mode during your off days.
How to turn off Quiet Mode on Facebook?
In case you wish to turn off Quiet Mode manually, follow our step by step guide to get you started.
Step 1: Open Facebook and log in to the app if you aren’t already logged in.
Step 2: Tap on the ‘Menu icon’ in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Step 3: Now tap on ‘Your time on Facebook’ which will show you detailed statistics about your app usage over the past few weeks. You may find this option under Settings & Privacy menu.
Step 4: Find and tap on the ‘Manage your time’ option. (As shown in the second screenshot above.)
Step 5: Here, you will find the toggle to turn off ‘Quiet Mode’. Simply slide it to your left to turn off ‘Quiet Mode’. (See the third screenshot above.)
Quiet Mode should now be turned off for you in the Facebook application. In case you wish to turn it back on again, simply switch the toggle back to its original place from Step 5.
Why Quiet mode is not available for my phone?
Well, if you have an Android phone, then you won’t have the feature available in your Facebook app because it hasn’t been released for you yet. Facebook plans to add the Quiet mode feature to its Android app in May 2020. For now, the feature is available only on their iOS app which is available for iPhone and iPad.
