Apple has been looking to improve Siri for a while. The iOS voice assistant has some serious drawbacks when compared to competitors like Google’s Voice Assistant and Amazon Alexa. There have been rumors that Apple has been training Siri to respond to voice prompts starting with “Siri” instead of “Hey Siri,” and a new feature in iOS 16.2 DB 2 seems to corroborate the same.
You can now control Siri’s responses better and have the assistant respond with silent responses. This is a great feature, especially when you are in low-noise or sensitive environments where silence is of the utmost priority. If you’d like Siri to be more silent on your iPhone, then here’s a perfect guide for you.
How to silence Siri’s responses on iPhone
Needless to say that your iPhone needs to be running iOS 16.2 or higher in order to use this feature; iOS 16.2 is currently in beta, and a public beta has been released alongside a developer beta.
You can choose to install either to use this feature immediately on your iPhone. Keep in mind that you will need an official beta profile to download iOS 16.2’s current beta release. Once you have updated your iPhone to iOS 16.2 or higher, use the guide below to have Siri respond with silent responses.
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Siri & Search.
Now tap and select Siri Responses.
Here you can spot a new Siri option for Prefer Silent Responses. Tap and select the same to have Siri respond silently on your iPhone.
How to show what Siri says onscreen (enable captions)
Additionally, we recommend you enable the toggle for Always Show Siri Captions and Always Show Speech to better understand Siri’s responses when she is responding silently. However, this is completely optional, and you can keep these turned off based on your preferences.
And that’s it! Siri will now respond silently whenever you trigger a task on your iPhone.
FAQs
Here are a few commonly asked questions about Siri’s responses that should help you get up to speed with the latest information.
What other options are available when controlling Siri’s responses?
You can have Siri respond automatically, or Prefer Spoken Responses apart from the option above. You can select either of these options from the same screen where we selected Prefer Silent Responses in the guide above.
Should you install beta software?
Beta software and operating systems are bound to contain bugs and issues that are yet to be tackled. We highly recommend you avoid installing beta software on your daily driver and instead install it on a secondary device if available. If you only have a single device, we highly recommend you check release notes to familiarize yourself with existing issues and ensure none of them will interrupt your workflow.
