QUICK ANSWER
Defeat Starscourge Radahn in Caelid, then ride north from his Site of Grace toward the giant pillars to trigger Knight Leontiel’s invasion — beating them drops Leontiel’s Greatsword and the full Leontiel armor set.

Knight Leontiel is one of the new NPC invaders added in the Tarnished Pack DLC (Tarnished Edition), which is out on all platforms. Beating this matador-styled duelist hands over a complete themed kit in one go: the unique Leontiel’s Greatsword plus every piece of the matching armor. The one catch is that the whole encounter is gated behind Starscourge Radahn, so you’ll want that fight cleared before you go looking for it.

How to Get Leontiel’s Greatsword and Armor in the Elden Ring Tarnished Pack

This route takes you from Radahn’s arena in Caelid to the exact spot where the invasion fires and the gear drops.

The invasion is locked behind him, so clear the Wailing Dunes arena in Caelid first.

STEP 2/7

Ride north from the arena

From the Starscourge Radahn Site of Grace, head north on Torrent across the open dunes toward the War-Dead Catacombs.

STEP 3/7

Make for the giant pillars

The “Invaded by Knight Leontiel!” banner appears and Torrent dismounts you slightly northwest of the arena.

Win the duel — that single kill is what releases the entire reward bundle.

The full set lands in your inventory at once, no separate pickups to hunt on the ground.

QUICK WIN

Keep Torrent moving through the pillar field — the invasion only fires once you cross into the trigger zone, so don’t sit still waiting for it to appear.

Beating Knight Leontiel, the matador duelist

Leontiel fights like a duelist, not a bruiser. Expect constant sidesteps, feints, and counters rather than the wide, telegraphed swings most field enemies throw at you. The rhythm is closer to a fencing match — bait an attack, watch them slip out of range, and wait for the recovery frame instead of trading blindly.

The tell to watch is the red cloth. When Leontiel lifts it, that’s a bait: a stance built to punish a greedy swing, usually followed by either a quick light slash or a heavier committed hit. Don’t take the bait — dodge to the side as they move and answer during the opening afterward. Play patient and the fight stays very manageable.

There’s a nice wrinkle here too. This same knight can appear on your side as a summon during the Radahn fight, so depending on how you cleared that boss, you may have already fought alongside them before squaring off here.

Leontiel’s full reward bundle

Item Slot / type
Leontiel’s Greatsword Greatsword
Leontiel’s Hat Head
Leontiel’s Armor Chest
Leontiel’s Leather Gloves Arms
Leontiel’s Boots Legs

Everything above drops together from that single kill — a common mix-up is expecting the sword and armor on separate runs, but there’s just the one bundle. The gear itself is a medium set with well-rounded defenses and no special passive effect, which makes it a sharp matador-styled cosmetic with solid mid-game survivability.

Leontiel’s Greatsword, Muleta, and Rellana’s Cameo

Stat Value
Requirements 26 DEX / 13 STR
Scaling (+0) C DEX / E STR
Scaling (+10) B DEX / D STR
Skill Muleta

The reason this greatsword climbed tier lists so quickly is its Ash of War, Muleta — the very red-cloth stance Leontiel uses against you. It lets you dodge and counter incoming attacks with a generous amount of hyper armor, so you can trade through a hit and still land your punish rather than getting staggered out of it.

It also pairs beautifully with Rellana’s Cameo, a Tarnished Edition talisman that boosts your damage after you briefly hold a stance — and Muleta feeds that window almost for free. The weapon leans Dexterity, as the requirements below show.

Those attribute and scaling figures are early numbers, and the finer details — full attack rating, defenses, and poise — aren’t pinned down yet, so treat the table as a working reference rather than a final spec sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to progress the Shadow of the Erdtree content to get this?

No. Unlike most of the newer DLC weapons, this one doesn’t require trekking into the Land of Shadow at all. It’s an early, accessible pickup tied only to beating Starscourge Radahn, so you can grab it long before you’re deep into the endgame.

Is the invasion repeatable, or is the gear a one-time drop?

It’s a scripted, one-time invasion. The full kit — the greatsword and all four armor pieces — drops together the moment you defeat Leontiel, so there’s nothing to re-farm for missing parts. One clean win gives you the whole set.

Which update added Knight Leontiel?

Knight Leontiel arrived with the Tarnished Pack in Patch 1.17, which went live on August 27, 2026. Any older guide or save that predates the Tarnished Edition content won’t point you to this invasion, so make sure your game is on the current version before you go hunting for the spot.
