The Honor Holly 3 is a mid range device which also goes by the moniker of Huawei Y6 II. The smartphone was launched in October last year and came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. Although Marshmallow is a petty good OS in itself, you’d be already thinking about whether and when you could see the Nougat update for Honor Holly 3.

Well, with 2GB of RAM and Kirin 620 processor underneath, the Honor Holly 3 is surely a capable device to run Android 7.0 update. And its other key specifics — 5.5-inch 720p display, 16GB storage, 13MP/8Mp camera and 3100mAh juice pack — mean that you can use it for a while for sure, if its software keeps performing well.

Will the Holly 3 get the bump to Android 7.0 Nougat?

The Honor Holly 3 rocks EMUI 4.1 atop of Marshmallow and it has only been a few months after the device was released. So, it’s safe to say that Nougat can be expected soon in the coming months.

Other than that, Huawei is also set to roll out a new update by the end of May. This update will bring VoLTE support to the device, which should prove useful in the Indian market, where Reliance Jio has gained popularity.

As for Android O support, it may seem too early to give an opinion. Considering that Google is set to unwrap Android O in about four months time, we could expect Android O to come to the Honor Holly 3 by next year. And that’s only if Huawei decides to support the device for a second update cycle.

Alternatives to Nougat?

If you’re not ready to wait it out for a few more months, for the official release to roll out, you could try Nougat through custom ROMs. But be careful when trying to find the right ROM, as some of them have the tendency to be unstable and may come with more bugs than you could tolerate.

Putting that aside, custom ROMs provide you with a lot more freedom to personalize your device. On top of that, you will also be able to squeeze out more performance from the Kirin 620 chipset than what Huawei already provides.
