A couple of weeks ago, Huawei promised to add the Face Unlock feature to the Honor 7X via a software update, but we didn’t have a specific date back then. Well, it didn’t take long because the phone is already getting a new software update that fulfills the company’s promise, but there’s more.
The Face Unlock feature, as you would expect, is another biometric authentication tool that adds to the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. The feature will unlock your phone when your face is recognized. To enable it, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Face Unlock.
The new update also adds a smart lock screen notifications feature that hides the content of notifications on your lock screen. Of course, this setting can be tweaked by heading to Settings > Security and privacy > Face Unlock > Smart lock screen notifications.
After the update, the Honor 7X will also get a new AR lens that allows users to add effects to selfies in addition to changing their backgrounds. This should make the already great selfie camera, which also comes with Bokeh effects, even better. This feature can be found in Camera > Modes > AR lens.
If you use the Weather app a lot, the new update also brings optimizations for accuracy of several city names and further installs the January 2018 Android security patch.
The update is rolling out over the air and comes with build number B192. It’s currently rolling out to the Chinese variant with model number AL10. The Honor 7X also has other variants sold in global markets with model numbers L21, L22 and L24, which should also receive this same treat sooner than later.
You can also try checking the availability of the update manually by heading to the phone’s Settings menu.
