According to a new rumor, the Galaxy S8 may not have a fingerprint scanner in the front. Instead, Samsung could place the sensor at the back, below the camera module. The rumor also suggests that the flagship smartphone will feature an Iris scanner. Like we said, the rumors won’t stop even if Samsung tightens security.
So far, we’ve heard rumors that that Galaxy S8 will have an optical fingerprint sensor embedded into the display. However, this new report says otherwise. If Samsung is planning on a bezel-less display on the S8, then it would be more practical to place a fingerprint sensor at the back. On larger devices, a rear mounted fingerprint sensor is much easier to use.
Another feature that Samsung might include in the Galaxy S8, is the Iris scanner. This piece of tech was first introduced on the Galaxy Note 7 earlier this year. Now, the rumor says that it could be used in the upcoming flagship as well, and will be even faster than it was on Note 7.
We’re only a few months away from the Galaxy S8 announcement, which is rumored to happen before the start of MWC 2017 on February 26. Other rumored Galaxy S8 specs include, Snapdragon 835 processor, dual camera on the Galaxy S8 Plus, 3D Touch, and 6GB of RAM.
