Samsung looks to make Galaxy S8 the best selfie shooter, to use encoder Autofocus

Samsung will soon be introducing Automatic Focus (AF) into its front cameras for all those selfie lovers out there, starting with Galaxy S8 (specs). Right now, Samsung has been using the fixed-type Autofocus, but now it wants to do its best to woo Selfie lovers — and who isn’t that? — by roping in AF actuator in the camera modules that help capture the photo based on accurate distance analysis.

Samsung will be using encoder type actuators to implement the autofocus function in the front camera of its next flagship, the upcoming Galaxy S8. Samsung is planning to employ encoder tech for Autofocus, instead of the VCM (Voice Coil Motor) tech sued for rear camera for similar functionality. That should help Samsung get you a slimmer Galaxy S8 compared to when VCM is used.

The Galaxy S8 will be flaunted as Samsung’s masterpiece for 2017. A render of the smartphone surfaced online and it looks pretty cool. The S8 will pack in Samsung’s own Bixby AI in direct competition to the Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana.

The Galaxy S8 is also expected to be featuring Force touch similar to 3D touch on the iPhone. Contrary to the 8GB of RAM we expected on the S8, it seems it would be packing 6GB RAM, which is still pretty good, along with massive 256GB storage.
