Samsung hasn’t made its plans in regards to Android 9 Pie updates official. Even so, the Galaxy S6 series isn’t on the list of devices expected to receive the official Pie update from Samsung, but the 2016 handsets are already receiving the OS unofficially.

As usual with the Android development community, users of several variants of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge can already install the latest and greatest from Google, but of course, being an unofficial update, there are a few hurdles you’ll have to jump before making it to the Pie ship.

The good side of the story is that everything has been taken care of in the XDA post that also has the download link to this Pie-based ROM, but make sure that your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge has any of the following model numbers:

Galaxy S6
  • SM-G925F
  • SM-G925FD
  • SM-G925I
  • SM-G925S
  • SM-G925K

So far, only T-Mobile users in the U.S. can enjoy this Pie-based update on either phone, but we expect other carriers’ models to get the nod sooner or later. The developers note that the ROM is working fine, apart from a few issues with Bluetooth call audio, GPS, and RIL, which should be ironed out sooner or later.
