Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) was quite a big upgrade over earlier versions of Android, with a completely new UI and some great new features. And in their efforts to totally move away from hardware buttons of any kind, Google also introduced virtual on-screen buttons for navigation, namely the Back, Menu and Multitasking buttons, ditching the traditional physical or capacitive buttons used before.
The Galaxy S saw many custom ICS based ROMs developed and released for it, but none of these ROMs have these on-screen virtual buttons as found on stock Android 4.0 (seen on the Galaxy Nexus). But now users on these ICS based ROMs can get the on-screen buttons, thanks to a great and simplified guide by XDA member paintball23456, who has provided step by step instructions on how you can get the on-screen navigation keys on any ICS ROM that you may be running on your Galaxy S.
Interested users can head on over to the original page on XDA and give it a try, so that they can add another Android 4 feature to their Galaxy S and use ICS the way it was meant to be used. Do share your thoughts and let us know how it works out for you, in the comments below.
