Huawei may have had its fair share of tussle with the US government, but that hasn’t stopped the company from working on its upcoming OS, EMUI 10. The company has promised to update over 30 phones to EMUI 10 by the second quarter of 2020, which is quite exceptional considering how sluggish some of the other companies have gotten lately.
Based on Android 10, EMUI 10 brings a lot of fine refinements, which ultimately contribute to making it the best EMUI version ever released. However, as is the case with almost all major software updates, EMUI 10, too, comes with a few rogue bugs, as shared by Huawei itself. And here, we’ll do our best to squash them.

While Android 10 issues isn’t a new thing, as a couple of these are some of the worst issues on Android (sensor problem, pop-up issue, eSIM, etc.), it seems that Huawei’s EMUI will be plagued by some problems of its own too, maybe because of the systematic changes Google made in Android 10.
Let’s have a look at known issues with EMUI 10.
Music player doesn’t show lyrics on lock screen
Displaying song lyrics on the lock screen is one of the handiest features of EMUI 10. But it is to be noted that the option isn’t enabled by default, and you’ll need to jump a couple of hoops to get it working.
First, you’ll have to let it show on top of other applications.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Open Applications.
Step 3: Tap on Application Management.
Step 4: Tap on the name of the application.
Step 5: Set Display on top of other applications to Allow.
Next, turn on the lock screen notification and banner notification switch.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Open Notification Center.
Step 3: Select the name of the application.
Step 4: Allow Notification.
Finally, manually turn on the lock screen notification switch, banner notification switch, and lock screen lyrics switch.
No call alert/alarm when screen is unlocked
Getting a call while you’re watching a show or recording a video can feel very annoying to some. EMUI 10 takes care of that problem by showing incoming call alerts on the notification banner instead of hogging the entire screen. That way, you are allowed to continue whatever you were doing while screening the caller.
Sadly, many users are having a hard time using this super useful feature, claiming they are not notified of the call while they are engaged somewhere else.
Here’s how to fix it:
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Open Applications.
Step 3: Tap on Application Management.
Step 4: Tap on the name of the application.
Step 5: Set Display on top of other applications to Allow.
Now, allow notifications inside the app.
Step 1: Go to Settings.
Step 2: Open Notification Center.
Step 3: Select the name of the application.
Step 4: Allow Notification.
Lastly, manually turn on the lock screen notification and banner notification switch.

To improve security, Google has disabled Device ID — IMEI, MEID, ESN, IMSI, SIM, USB serial numbers, etc. — on Android 10. So, due to the fact that EMUI 10 is based on Google’s newest OS, it, too won’t support Device ID in the future. As many apps bank on Device ID for authentication, they are likely to pop up with compatibility issues.
App crashes, compatibility errors
Apps that don’t adhere to current standards and use Android ID, OAID, and ODID for authentication, are going to have a difficult time running on the current system. If the app is marked as incompatible on the app market, try not to download it. Else, run the app on EMUI 9.1 or below.
Login not working
If you get an error message like “device is not associated with the device. Use original device”, you’re sadly out of luck, as there’s nothing you can do to fix the issue immediately. You can report the app to developers and wait for them to release an update, or you could downgrade to EMUI 9.1 or below.
Repeated pop-up windows asking for authentication
If an app shows consecutive pop-up windows asking for authentication, you might be running an incompatible application. There’s no workaround at the moment, so, the only course of action would be to report the issue to the app developer and wait for them to fix it.
Can’t use flow-free function
You’ll need to update apps like Tencent King card or Alibao card to the latest version in order to use the streaming card. Else, you could use Wi-Fi or 4G for streaming.
Fingerprint payment authentication not working
If you can’t authenticate using your fingerprint, make sure to update the app to the latest available version.
Banking apps not working
If your banking apps were authenticated with Device ID (IMEI, MEID, ESN, IMSI, SIM, USB serial numbers, etc.), they are not likely to work on EMUI 10. You’ll need to reinstall and reauthenticate those applications to get them up to the current standards.
