QUICK ANSWER
Cast the Law of Regression incantation at the Radagon statue in Leyndell, Royal Capital — before the city turns into the Ashen Capital — to trigger the new Broken Gold Mask invasion; beat the invader and you get the Golden Order Flail plus the whole Broken Gold Mask / Gold Tattoo set in one drop.

The Tarnished update folds two brand-new NPC invasions into the base game, and the one hiding in Leyndell, Royal Capital is the richest single payout of the bunch — a unique weapon and a full four-piece armor set from one fight. The catch is that it is permanently missable: push the story too far and the reward is gone for that character forever. So before the walkthrough, get the timing straight.

Prerequisites and the Ashen Capital lockout

Requirement Details
Leyndell state Must still be Royal Capital — do not defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade, or the reward is lost for good
Law of Regression Own the incantation (learned from the Golden Order Principia prayerbook)
37 Intelligence Needed to cast the spell — a Faith build may need a Larval Tear respec
Sacred Seal Equip any seal to actually cast the incantation

The whole thing hinges on Leyndell still being the Royal Capital. Once you defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade and the city becomes Leyndell, Ashen Capital, the invasion never fires again — there is no second chance and no workaround, so treat this as something to clear off your list well before the late game. You also need to have reached the Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace, the room where you fight the golden shade of Godfrey, First Elden Lord, since every part of this route starts and ends there.

QUICK WIN

Strip off your armor to drop into light load before the branch jump to the Golden Order Principia — at medium or heavy equip load you won’t get the speed to clear the ledge, which is exactly where most people give up.

Every reward from the invasion

Reward Details
Golden Order Flail 9 Strength / 16 Dexterity / 26 Faith; causality bubble skill turns incoming hits into an AoE follow-up
Broken Gold Mask Helm; raises Faith
Gold Tattoo (Chest) Chest piece; raises Faith
Gold Tattoo (Arm) Arms; raises Faith
Gold Tattoo (Leg) Legs; raises Faith

One fight, five items. The headline drop is the Golden Order Flail, a Faith-scaling weapon with a genuinely unusual weapon skill: it puts up a protective bubble that upgrades as you take hits, turning incoming damage into a bigger AoE follow-up explosion. It is built around getting hit on purpose, which is why it pairs so well with the armor that drops alongside it.

Key That armor is the four-piece Golden Order / Broken Gold Mask set, and it comes with a real trade-off. Every piece raises Faith and feeds the flail’s causality-based skill, but the set also lowers Focus, which drops your resistance to Sleep and Madness — so it rewards a player who knows what they’re building toward rather than one grabbing it for stats. The set also visibly changes your character’s body model when worn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to finish Brother Corhyn’s questline first, or is casting Law of Regression enough?

Casting the spell at the statue is what physically summons the invader, and plenty of players trigger it simply by owning Law of Regression and casting it there. Where it gets murky is how far along Brother Corhyn’s / Goldmask’s questline you need to be for the cast to register — accounts differ, and some players aren’t certain the questline is required at all. If your cast changes the statue but no invader appears, advancing that questline a step is the thing to try next.

How do I respec to 37 Intelligence, and where’s an easy early Larval Tear?

You respec by handing a Larval Tear to Rennala at the Grand Library in Raya Lucaria and redistributing your points. An easy early one sits in the cemetery at the Village of the Albinaurics, so grab that, push Intelligence to 37 long enough to cast Law of Regression once, and respec back afterward if your real build is Faith-focused.

What’s the other new invasion in the Tarnished update?

Head to Caelid’s Wailing Dunes — the Starscourge Radahn arena — and go straight north to get invaded by Knight Leontiel. Beating her drops Leontiel’s Greatsword plus the full set: Leontiel’s Hat, Leontiel’s Armor, Leontiel’s Leather Gloves, and Leontiel’s Boots.
