Pure Quartz sits behind two gates: it only spawns in the coldest parts of the map, and the placeable mining site that ends the travel entirely costs Pure Quartz to build. So the route is a single cold trip, then a base that never asks you to make that trip again. Once the site is running with a couple of Mining Pals on it, stock climbs into the tens of thousands without you touching a pickaxe.

Fastest Pure Quartz setup and what you need first

Everything below assumes a late-game save. The 1.0 update pushed the level cap to 80 and stretched the tech tree, and the snowy regions were retuned along with it — the Pals wandering around the tundra hit hard, so gear matters as much as cold protection does.

Where Pure Quartz spawns in the snowy north

You need that first batch by hand, which means the northern tundra. Pure Quartz deposits read as dark, jagged rocks with glassy spikes pushing out of them — close to coal in color but not flat black, and against fresh snow they stand out from ten meters away. The in-game description sums it up plainly: it’s found in snowy fields and similar places.

The Unthawable Lake pocket is the one to fly to first — roughly nine Pure Quartz crystals plus an ore deposit inside a small radius, which is most of your 100 in one visit. Older routes still circulate with approximate coordinates near (-213, 250), (-257, 391) and (200, 99); the habitat pass in 1.0 moved a lot of ore around, so treat those as backup clusters rather than a plan. A grab-bag detail worth the detour: there’s a golden chest sitting near the ice in the same area, and legendary schematics show up in that loot pool.

Gear up for the cold

Equip cold-resistant armor before you enter the snow biome or the temperature drain will kill you outright.

Find the nodes beside the ice

Look along the ice for dark, spiked crystalline rocks — they cluster thickly in this area.

Mine your starter batch

Break the deposits with a Refined Metal Pickaxe, and gather at least 100 Pure Quartz for the build cost.

Loot the golden chest nearby

Unlock and build the mining site

Spend 5 Ancient Technology Points on the Pure Quartz mining site, then place it at your base with 100 Pure Quartz, 70 Stone, 30 Paldium Fragments, and 10 Ancient Civilization Parts.

Assign your Mining Pals

Put two Pals with high Mining suitability on the site so it produces continuously.

Add storage and a Transporting Pal

Build a chest right beside the site and assign a Transporting Pal to move the output into it.

Which Pals to assign and how to lay out the base

Ignore Pal names for a moment and look at the number. Work suitability runs on a 1–10 scale in 1.0, and the site rewards raw Mining rank over anything else — a Mining 7 Pal is a strong baseline, and you can push that to 9 with a four-star rank up or all the way to 10 using a handbook. Two of those on one site is enough to bury you in quartz.

Digtoise and Reptyro are the reliable early picks if you’re building this before your box is stacked. Digtoise spawns in numbers around level 18–20 near the northern farm spots, so you can catch one long before the site unlocks; Reptyro needs heat-resistant gear because it lives in the volcano biome in the southwest.

The rest is base hygiene. Keep a Transporting Pal in the roster at all times or the output piles up on the ground instead of the chest, and keep food and beds stocked — a hungry or exhausted worker stops mining, and a farm that idles overnight is the same as no farm. Both of the classic northern farm pockets sit away from heavy Pal traffic, which means minimal raid interruptions if you build your outpost right on top of one.

Manual mining, respawns, and what Pure Quartz builds

If level 50 is still ahead of you, the manual loop holds up fine. Nodes respawn every day in the wild, or every other day if you’ve built a base next to them, so the routine is to clear a cluster, sleep in a bed or fast travel to another statue and back, then clear it again. That cycle is slower than the site but it’s how you bank the 100 Pure Quartz part of the site’s build cost.

What it’s all for: Circuit Boards. Anything electric — higher-tier assembly lines, electric goods, endgame weapons like Jetragon’s Missile Launcher — runs through them, and Circuit Boards run through Pure Quartz. Note that Pure Quartz and Hexolite Quartz are separate resources with separate nodes and separate biomes; Hexolite feeds its own armor line, and swapping one for the other in a recipe simply won’t work.

Mistakes that stall a Pure Quartz farm

The expensive one is walking into the tundra without cold resistance and without endgame gear. Late-game enemies were placed throughout those regions when the cap rose to 80, and dying up there costs you the materials you just mined. The second is chasing pre-1.0 quartz maps — the habitat redesign shifted ore density, so a cliff route that was famous in early access may hand you three nodes instead of nine.

After that it’s all base-side. Confusing the two quartz types leaves recipes stubbornly locked, storage placed across the base throttles a Transporting Pal into a courier, and skipping the Transporting Pal entirely means your Mining Pals fill the site and stop. And once the mining site is running, stop making the cold trip — manual runs after that point are pure wasted time.
